Tanjore Painting Workshop Timeline

Day 1: Foundation & Relief Work

Day 1
🕐 Duration: 2 hours
Introduction (5 mins): Welcome and overview of Tanjore painting history, significance, and materials used.

Step 1 (45 mins): Transferring the image onto the canvas. Discuss on muck mixing techniques.
Step 2 (1 hr 15 mins):
Preparing and coning the muck, then layering it carefully on the image for relief work.

 

Apply semi-precious stones to enhance your artwork with the rich detailing and ornamental beauty characteristic of traditional Tanjore paintings.

 

Day 2
🕐 Duration: 2 hours
Step 3: Building detailed layers on elements such as the elephant.
Application of gold foil on the muck and borders.

Day 3
🕐 Duration: 2 hours
Step 4: Completing gold application and beginning to paint the background and key elements.

🕐 Duration: 2 hours

  • Step 5 (50 mins):
    Painting the elephants and refining intricate details.

  • Step 6 (1 hr):
    Cleaning gold areas, enhancing clarity, and adding finishing touches with drawing ink.

  • Step 7 (10 mins):
    Showcase time ` participants display and share their finished artworks.
