I always get eager to introduce young minds to the vivid world of oil pastels as an art instructor. In my most recent session, I taught kids ages 8 to 13, and the goal was not only to teach them methods, but also to ignite their imagination and cultivate a passion for art.
We begin this class by going over the basics of light and shadow. For any artist, knowing how light interacts with objects is essential. I used basic shapes to illustrate how to generate depth by highlighting and shading, illustrating how flat objects can become three-dimensional. The pupils were astounded at how a little shadow could breathe life into their illustrations!
We had a great time using oil pastels while covering important oil pastel skills. My students’ enthusiasm and inventiveness invigorated me as I exited the classroom. We will continue our artistic adventure together and advance these skills in our upcoming session, which I am really excited about!
